Jennifer McKown focuses her law practice on plaintiff’s civil litigation. She works exclusively for the victims of Motor Vehicle Crashes; Traumatic Brain Injuries; and Wrongful Death. She also specializes in cases involving the Alabama Sales Representative’s Commission Contracts Act. This Act addresses the situation of manufacturers hiring sales representatives to develop relationships with customers only to then terminate them to avoid paying commissions.

Jennifer is not afraid to take your case to trial. Upon graduating from the University of Alabama School of Law, she was chosen as a judicial law clerk for The Honorable James P. Smith in Madison County, Alabama. She observed daily some of the best trial lawyers in North Alabama go to battle in the courtroom. She watched those great lawyers not back down from a trial and fight hard for their clients. She was energized by those attorneys and knew right away she wanted to be a trial lawyer fighting hard for the victims of wrongdoing. When her clerkship ended, Jennifer turned down a job in Baltimore for the opportunity to learn trial law from one of those great Madison County lawyers.

Only 4 days after she was hired at her mentor’s firm, Jennifer was challenged to second chair a case at trial. She accepted the challenge and delivered her first opening statement less than a week after joining the firm. Jennifer continued to successfully try personal injury cases to verdict in multiple Alabama counties. Jennifer quickly developed a reputation for her trial skills helping clients injured by car accidents. She also represented clients before the Alabama Supreme Court and the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals on many occasions. She believed in a teamwork approach to cases and was eager to help the attorneys with any case. Jennifer quickly became a partner at that law firm. She remained with the firm for the next decade.

In 2011, Jennifer decided to hang her own shingle. In her years of practice with multiple attorneys and a large volume of cases, she learned that the client often gets lost in the zest for a “win.” She witnessed lawyers too frequently forgetting about the person when they take on a case. While those attorneys certainly exist, Jennifer is not one of them. She knows clients appreciate a lawyer who updates them frequently, returns their phone calls immediately and explains fully any aspects of the case. With her own firm, Jennifer focused on the personal attention her clients deserved. Jennifer practices law to help people. She is energized by her clients feeling comfortable with the legal process and understanding what to expect at each phase of the case. She wants to win for the client.

In 2016, Jennifer was elated that her friend and former law partner, Jeff Blackwell, decided to open a law firm. When Jeff asked her to join him, Jennifer did not hesitate. At their former firm, Jennifer and Jeff fought hard for clients. They shared a philosophy of providing personal, individualized attention to each client. That philosophy has only deepened at the Blackwell Law Firm. When you contact our firm with your legal issue, you will speak to an attorney. You will then meet with an attorney to further discuss your legal claim. The attorneys at Blackwell Law Firm will provide updates on your case and will always be available to speak to you about your questions or concerns. Jennifer and Jeff would not have it any other way.

Jennifer enjoys hiking and is so grateful to live in Madison County where the trails seem endless. She also loves photography (which fits nicely with her hiking adventures). She is thankful that novels exist because she reads law books at work. She is equally passionate about West Virginia and Alabama Football.
